Ahmed Samy

Dr. Ahmed Samy Ali Ashour is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Arabian Gulf University. He previously served as a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cairo University, specializing in maternal-fetal medicine, reproductive health, and minimally invasive gynecologic procedures. He holds an MD in Obstetrics and Gynecology and has authored over 45 peer-reviewed articles on topics including pregnancy outcomes, obstetric interventions, and minimally invasive and outpatient gynecological procedures. Aseel Al Saleh

Dr. Aseel AlSaleh is an accomplished registered nutritionist specializing in obesity, diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome and genetics. She is an Associate Professor at the Arabian Gulf University and has her clinic at King Abdullah Medical City. Before coming to Bahrain, she worked at Imperial College London, where she led cutting-edge research in the prevention of diabetes and obesity in the UK. She has being awarded her PhD by King’s College London, where she extensively researched the effect of diet and gene interaction in determining metabolic syndrome risk factors. She was the lead genetics researcher in two multi-center studies in the UK. Dr AlSaleh resumed her research and teaching activities at the same university before joining Imperial College. She then completed a research degree at Harvard Medical School. She has published her findings in top ranking scientific journals, and her research is heavily cited. Her PhD research was recognized by the Nutrition Society as the UK’s best research work for that year. Dr AlSaleh continues her research and practice, offering nutritional consultations to companies and patients at her clinic and online.

Christina Skrypnyk

Dr. Cristina Skrypnyk is a distinguished Senior Consultant Medical Geneticist with extensive expertise in the evaluation, diagnosis, testing, and management of genetic and genomic disorders. Holding a Ph.D. in Medical Genetics and European Board certification in Medical Genetics and Genomics, she has undergone advanced international postgraduate training in cytogenetics, molecular cytogenetics, genetic and genomic counseling, nutrigenomics, pharmacogenomics, and functional medicine. A member of several prestigious international genetic societies, Dr. Skrypnyk also serves as an expert member of the WHO Collaborative Global Network for Rare Disorders. She is a strong advocate for ethical medical practice and is deeply committed to raising public awareness about genetic knowledge. Her approach emphasizes personalized, integrative genomic medicine to enhance health, prevent disease, and promote quality aging. Dr. Skrypnyk is actively engaged in medical genetics research and is a dedicated volunteer supporting international organizations for genetic disorder patients. Dalal Alromaihi

Prof. Dalal Alromaihi is a Consultant Endocrinologist at Awali Hospital since December 2022, with prior experience as and Endocrinologist and Head of the Internal Medicine Department at King Hamad University Hospital. Her clinical expertise includes practicing endocrinology in Arizona prior to moving back to Bahrain in 2014. She earned her MD with honors and a Bachelor in Basic Medical Sciences from Arabian Gulf University, along with a Master’s in Healthcare Management from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Dr. Alromaihi is American Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism and was trained at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit. Her latest significant academic contributions include the book "Diabetes and Women: Towards Better Health During Pregnancy" and various research articles on diabetic care and metabolic health. She has notably addressed diabetic management during COVID-19 and participated in the creation of regional guidelines on obesity and hyperglycemia in pregnancy. As an Associate Professor at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, she trains medical students and participates in many research studies. Prof. Alromaihi has received honors such as the Prince Salman bin Hamad Medal for Medical Merit, the Best Clinical Lecturer Award and humanism in medicine award. Passionate about healthcare improvement and patient education, she focuses on diabetes management and endocrinology, engaging in research and training to enhance understanding of endocrine health and she is a member of the national Taskforce for combating NCDs in the Kingdom of Bahrain and chair of scientific committee at Bahrain Diabetes Society.


Ebaa Al Ozairi

Dr Al Ozairi has completed her intercalated BMSc (hons) in molecular pathology at Dundee University (UK) and graduated from Aberdeen University (UK) for her medical undergraduate studies and post graduated in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Newcastle University (UK). She was awarded the Fulbright fellowship to Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. Dr Ebaa Al Ozairi holds the American Board for Physician Nutrition Specialist and is a fellow at the American College of Nutrition and completed Rabkin Fellowship in medical Education at Harvard Medical school. She is a reviewer for Lancet Endocrinology, European Journal for Endocrinology, Diabetic Medicine, Obesity, Surgery and frontier in Endocrinology. Dr. Al Ozairi has 4 chapters in International books and has more than 90 peer reviewed publications, with 150 oral presentations in regional and international conferences. Dr Alozairi has won his highness the Amir Gold medal electronic award and the Arab regional award for e technology for co-founding the most comprehensive Arabic Diabetes Website. She was the 1st woman to become the president of American Association of Clinical Endocrinologist - Gulf Chapter and currently serves as Vice Chair in the World Obesity Federation as first member ever serving from Middle East, and co-chair for International Federation for Surgery Obesity (IFSO), integrated health committee. She and her team won the Diabetes UK educational award for pioneering DAFNE Ramadan, being the 1s group outside Europe to win this prestigious award. Dr. AL Ozairi is currently the Chief Medical Officer at Dasman Diabetes Institute and Consultant, Diabetes, Endocrinology and Nutrition.


Francesco Rubino

Professor Francesco Rubino is Chair of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at King's College London and Honorary Consultant at King's College Hospital. His clinical expertise includes laparoscopic bariatric, metabolic and upper digestive surgery. His research showed that the anti-diabetes effect of certain bariatric procedures result from mechanisms beyond weight loss, providing a scientific rationale for surgical treatment of type 2 diabetes and supporting a role of the gastrointestinal tract in the pathophysiology of diabetes and obesity. He is the Chair of the Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology Commission that defined Clinical and Pre-Clinical Obesity. He was the main organiser of the Diabetes Surgery Summit, an influential series of international consensus conferences that developed global clinical guidelines for surgical treatment of type 2 diabetes. He was also the convenor and lead author of the Joint International Consensus Statement for Ending Stigma of Obesity and associated Pledge to Eradicate Weight Stigma, published, endorsed by more than 150 worldwide organizations including professional societies, major academic centers and scientific journals. Professor Rubino received his MD in general surgery at the Catholic University / Policlinico Gemelli in Rome and he completed fellowships at the European Institute of Telesurgery in Strasbourg; MountSinai Medical Centre in New York and the Cleveland Clinic. He previously serves as Chief of Gastrointestinal metabolic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical Center-New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York, NY. He is the recipient of numerous awards and has given hundreds of presentations throughout the world.


Haitham Amin

Dr. Haitham Amin is a consultant interventional cardiologist with expertise in invasive cardiology and structural interventions. He currently serves as the General Manager of Medical Affairs and Head of the Cardiology Department at the Royal Medical Services-Mohammed Bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Specialist Cardiac Centre in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Dr. Haitham is the Chairman of the Bahrain STENT Save a Life National STEMI Program. He is currently an Associate professor at the Arabian Gulf University, Bahrain. He is also a course director of Mayo Clinic Cardiovascular Reviews in Bahrain since 2014, and course director of GULF PCR-GIM, the largest interventional meeting in the region. He has published more than 120 peer reviewed articles. Dr. Haitham received his medical degree from Arabian Gulf University in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He completed his residency training in internal medicine, cardiology, and interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of British Columbia in Canada. Additionally, he obtained a Master's in Quality Management and Safety at The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland - Medical University of Bahrain. Dr. Haitham's primary focus is on the percutaneous treatment of coronary artery diseases and other common cardiovascular conditions. He is active in clinical research and has been involved in quality initiatives.

Mashael Alshafai

Dr Mashael Al-Shafai is an Associate Professor in Biomedical Science (Human Genetics) and Strategic Advisor at QU Health Sector- Qatar University. She earned her bachelor degree with honors in Huma Genetics from University of Leeds, United Kingdom, in 2009, and a PhD degree in Clinical Medicine Research from Imperial College London in 2016. She joined the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the College of Health Sciences as an assistant professor, and worked on establishing Qatar’s first Master program in Genetic Counselling, which was launched in 2018. She served as the head of research and graduate studies in the college of health sciences in Fall 2020-Fall 2022 and as the Director of Graduate Studies in QU Health in Fall 2022 and as Strategic Advisor in the VP of Health and Medical Sciences office in Spring 2025. She was promoted to associate level in May 2023. She has supervised 12 undergraduate students, 9 master and 2 (current) PhD students. She was awarded several grants by Qatar University and Qatar National Research Fund (currently QRDI council). She has authored more than 30 research articles in international scientific journals, and participated in national international events and represented the State of Qatar in international organizations such as UNESCO. Dr Al-Shafai is a member of the Transnational Alliance for Genetic counselling (TAGC) and a member in many committees at the national level such as the Health Research Ethics Committee and the National Obesity Taskforce. She also served in several QU-level committees such as the WASC Accreditation Committee and the Institutional Review Board (QU-IRB). She is a member of the Qatar Genome Consortium and leading the establishment of the first twin registry in Qatar, the Qatar Twin Registry.


Muhammad Yasir

Dr. Muhammad is a Professor of Microbiology at the Special Infectious Agents Unit, King Fahd Medical Research Center, King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. He obtained a Ph.D. from Gyeongsang National University in South Korea and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey, USA. A h-index of 39 distinguishes him as a faculty member with 15 years of experience in microbiology. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles that have been cited more than 5,000 times globally. Dr. Muhammad serves as an associate editor for Frontier Microbiology, guest editor for Microorganisms, and reviewer for several prestigious scientific journals. The Elsevier Data Repository from Stanford University has also recognized him among the top 2% of scientists worldwide. Dr. Muhammad's research focuses on investigating the structure and function of microbial communities in clinical and environmental settings using culturomics and metagenomics combined with computational approaches. He initiated the human microbiome program for the Saudi population at King Fahd Medical Research Center. Their research group developed several animal models to illustrate dysbiosis in gut microbiota with antimicrobial agents and metabolic disorders. He also studies the antibiotic resistome encoded by microbial communities from various environments, including marine ecosystems, soil, wastewater, healthcare facilities, and the food chain. He is also actively involved in research on the human microbiome and emerging zoonotic infections. Over the course of his career, Dr. Muhammad has secured 23 research grants from prestigious institutions, including King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, the Saudi National Institute of Health, the Deanship of Scientific Research at King Abdulaziz University, and the Jameel Foundation for Infectious Diseases. He has supervised 15 postgraduate students and currently leads the antimicrobial research group at the Special Infectious Agents Unit. |


Nada Alnaji

Nada Alnaji is a seasoned global health expert with extensive experience in the United States and the Middle East. She currently serves as the Manager for NCD Programs and Policies at the Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Nada holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Her career includes significant roles such as Executive Director of Keep Well under the Model of Care in the Eastern Health Cluster and National Lead for Community Based Wellness at the Health Holding Company in Saudi Arabia. She has contributed to various research projects, including those focused on non-communicable diseases, maternal mental health, and health outcomes in conflict zones.


Naji Alamuddin

Dr. Naji Alamuddin is a consultant endocrinologist, diabetologist, and obesity specialist at King Hamad University Hospital, Acting Head of the Internal Medicine Department, Associate Professor in Medicine, and Deputy Head of the School of Medicine at RCSI Bahrain. He received his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, a Master’s in Translational Research from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Education for Health Professionals from Johns Hopkins University. He completed his internal medicine residency at Pennsylvania Hospital and a fellowship in diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolism at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He then joined the faculty of the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania as an assistant professor in medicine. He is currently enrolled in a Global Executive MBA at INSEAD. Dr. Alamuddin is board certified in internal medicine, endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. He serves on the maintenance of certification committee for the American Board of Obesity Medicine. His research focuses on the treatment of obesity, involving behavioral, pharmacological, and surgical approaches. He is primarily interested in understanding metabolic changes associated with weight loss and bariatric surgery. Dr. Alamuddin has led complex mechanistic human studies from conception to implementation and has extensive research experience in lipid metabolism and obesity. He was previously awarded an NIH K12 Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Program award and has published in high-impact journals including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Circulation, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Obesity, and Obesity Surgery.

Osama Hamdy

Osama Hamdy, MD, PhD, FACE is a world expert and recognized thought leader in the fields of obesity, nutrition, and diabetes technology. Dr. Hamdy is a senior staff physician and Medical Director of the Obesity Clinical Program at Joslin Diabetes Center, and Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Hamdy is very active in nutrition and obesity clinical research. His lab led to many innovations and discoveries that changed how we currently manage obesity in patients with either type 2 or type 1 diabetes and were incorporated in several National and International Guidelines. Dr. Hamdy research led to the first landmark discovery that 7% weight loss in obese patients with and without diabetes significantly improve vascular endothelial function, insulin sensitivity and markers of inflammation. Dr. Hamdy was a co-investigator in two US landmark studies: the “Diabetes Prevention Program” and “the Look AHEAD Study”. In 2005, Dr. Hamdy founded the “Weight Achievement and Intensive Treatment (Why WAIT) program, which is currently implemented nationally and internationally. He also found the Diabetes Remission Outcome Program (DROP) that helped newly diagnosed patients with diabetes within 5 years to get remission from the disease and stop medications. Dr. Hamdy co-chaired the task force that developed the global transcultural Diabetes Nutrition Algorithm (tDNA). Dr. Hamdy long-term work on diabetes technology including AID, CGMs, and AI ranked him the world’s 3rd most cited physician on diabetes technology. Dr. Hamdy joined Joslin Diabetes Center in 1998, where he founded the obesity clinical program and restructured the inpatient diabetes program. Dr. Hamdy won the 2015 Michaela Modan Award of the American Diabetes Association for his research on long-term diabetes weight management. He was given the Compassionate Caregiver Award of the Kenneth Schwartz Center. Dr. Hamdy has more than 150 peer-reviewed original articles, reviews, and book chapters. He is also the author of the Harvard Health Publication “The Diabetes Breakthrough” reversing diabetes through weight management. He is on the editorial review board of many medical journals including Lancet, JAMA, British Medical Journal, Diabetes Care and 2 times section editor of Nutrients and Current Diabetes Report and also associate editor of Frontiers in Nutrition.

Rima Abdul Razak

Prof. Rima Abdul Razzaq is professor of Physiology who obtained her Bachelor of Science degree at the American University of Beirut (AUB) in 1988, then a PhD in Physiology (specializing in spinal cord neurophysiology) at the University of Southampton, England in 1992. Her scientific knowledge and teaching are not limited to Neurophysiology but span across all fields of Physiology. She has taught Physiology for the past 30 years to medical students, to students in other medical sciences (Physiotherapy, Respiratory Therapy, etc….) and to master’s students (Neuroscience), exclusively at Imam Abdul Rahman Bin Faisal University, KSA and at the Arabian Gulf University (AGU), Bahrain. Her other academic roles within the problem-based (PBL) setting include PBL tutoring, chairing PBL units such as that on the Respiratory System and coordinating a few PBL problems. She has also undertaken some administrative roles, such as chairing the Physiology department at AGU for 5 years, and in this current academic year has been appointed as the Dean of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at AGU. Prof. Rima chaired the Quality Assurance Committee in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) for 7 years and helped in the successful accreditation process of the MD program at AGU. Prof. Rima also encourages innovation in education like accommodating new teaching methods and introduction of new technologies such as integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the medical curriculum for training the next generation of doctors.


Roy Philip

Prof Philip is currently serving as the Adjunct Professor of Neonatology and Consultant Neonatologist at University of Limerick School of Medicine and University Hospitals in Limerick, Ireland. Previously he was the Honorary Associate Professor of Pediatrics, University of Maastricht, Netherlands and Clinical Director of Maternal and Child Health of University Hospitals in Ireland. He was elected the President of Irish Pediatric Association (IPA) for three terms from 2007 to 2012. He was formerly a consultant at Rotunda Maternity Hospital in Dublin and the Critical Care & ECMO Fellow at the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, London. Prof Philip is a Fellow of Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, Royal College of Pediatrics & Child Health of UK and the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine of Ireland. His PhD in Neonatology focused on the preventative and bioactive roles of human milk. He is in receipt of National and international awards for health services development and is a reviewer to over twenty peer reviewed journals. Prof Philip has published over fifty journal articles and The New York Times, BBC and Euro news have covered his research. Neonatal blood sampling device (Philip’s needle) marketed as Neo-safe® was developed by him. Prof Philip's current areas of interest are breast milk and exclusive human milk diet for very premature neonates, maternal vaccinations, life-course immunization, and evidence-based design and development of neonatal units. William Marks, Ph.D.
William Marks is an Executive Fellow in the Entrepreneurial Management Unit at Harvard Business School. In the MBA program, William teaches Entrepreneurship in Life Sciences and Life Sciences Venture Creation, both elective courses for second-year MBA students as well as PhD and Masters candidates from across Harvard and MIT.
In addition to his teaching, William is a serial entrepreneur in the life sciences and healthcare sectors. William is a board member for companies and non-profit organizations and currently advises a number of early-stage startups. He is also a partner in several investment funds. William co-founded a number of companies focused in the biotech space. Prior to his work at Seismic Therapeutic, William was a venture capital investor at Polaris Partners and a consultant in the Boston Consulting Group’s Healthcare Practice, along with founding several other companies in the tech sector.
Additionally, William has also published and presented numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences on topics including GenAI in the life sciences, tissue engineering, care delivery efficiency, medical education, medical device design and other topics.
William holds a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Cambridge (UK), and a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Engineering Sciences (Biomedical Engineering) from Harvard University. William also holds a MBA from Harvard Business School.
