Community challenges with Obesity.
In 2024, WHO estimates that more than one billion people in the world are now living with obesity, nearly 880 million adults and 159 million children and adolescents aged 5-19 years. The problem may be more evident in the Gulf region. The GCC countries have some of the highest obesity rates in the world. According to data from the WHO, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar ranked second (after the US), third, and fourth in obesity rates, respectively. Regarding female obesity, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia rank first, second, and third, respectively. The number of people suffering from Obesity-related disorders continues to rise each year. But the bigger problem is that nearly 60% of these people are completely unaware of morbidity-related diseases linked to Obesity, let alone how to heal them. Millions of people are suffering, trying all kinds of diets, pills, and treatments to boost energy and lose weight. Unfortunately, they will all fail unless they learn how to heal the underlying Obesity issues. The economic impacts of the obesity epidemic are also important. If nothing is done, the global costs of overweight and obesity are predicted to reach US$ 3 trillion per year by 2030 and more than US$ 18 trillion by 2060. Reflecting this imperative, AGU International Obesity Conference-2025 believes that professionally oriented education in Obesity medicine is essential in the training of clinicians and academicians and in organizing the Obesity conference, which will provide future leadership in this key area for global health.
AGU International Obesity Conference 2025 marks a significant leap in obesity research and weight management on the global stage. With a focus on education, the conference aims to propel advancements in tackling obesity challenges. Emphasizing cutting-edge methodologies and a robust pedagogical framework, we aim to guide the next generation of experts. We invite scientists, medical practitioners, researchers, and delegates to
join the AGU International Obesity Conference 2025, contributing to shaping the future of obesity research. Your presence will be pivotal in fostering collaboration and advancing the understanding and treatment of this global health challenge. Obesity has been recognized as an important public health issue globally and a major determinant of morbidity and mortality in the Gulf Region, which raises the risk of noncommunicable diseases. Overweight and obesity have reached epidemic dimensions in the Gulf Region, impairing almost 60% of adults. Children are also affected, with almost 8% of children younger than 5 years and one in three school-aged children living with overweight or obesity. Repercussions of obesity on health include those that result from the mechanical effects of excess body weight, such as metabolic effects like diabetes and cardiovascular risk, malignancy, infertility, and the effects on mental health and quality of life.
Attendees will benefit from important updates in the science and understanding of obesity as a disease and the evidence around effective treatment. You will also get practical advice and tools from experts in obesity treatment that can be applied in day-to-day practice. And, of course, this will be the best opportunity to meet and engage with other caring and dedicated health professionals as we grow our network and community of obesity care professionals.
Mark your calendar for May 8-9, 2025, as we embark on a journey to weigh extraordinary innovations and gain honest trends in pursuing better healthcare outcomes. We look forward to your active participation in this enlightening and collaborative event. You are invited and encouraged to contribute to the program by submitting abstracts for poster presentation, and we look forward to your active involvement.
We hope you will join us for what promises to be a stimulating professional and educational event, and we look forward to welcoming you to Bahrain.
